Need to get your Zen on?
San Francisco, California boasts a yoga class that incorporates cannabis into the routine. The class is led by Dee Dussault (22-years of practice) at her studio Ganja Yoga, which opened in 2012 and is the first of its kind in the U.S.
A course that combines cannabis and yoga allows people to “find their inner bliss through relaxation, mindfulness, and sensuality.”
Ganja yoga may be a new concept in the United States; however, combining the two has been a long standing pastime in India, where for centuries monks have used cannabis in their ceremonies to “achieve an altered state of consciousness that allowed for a deeper mediation”.
Those who are interested in the yoga studio, but aren’t sure if they want to partake in the cannabis part, are still welcome to join. Ingesting cannabis is optional and is simply an enhancement to the experience.
Beginners will be educated on the different strains of cannabis and Dussault will help find a strain that works best for each participant. Additionally, Dussault says that Ganga Yoga is less focused on gaining fitness and improving your yoga postures, and more about the experience.
